Assembly Meeting March 2007
March 2007
Over 100 delegates attended the recent Colchester2020 Assembly Meeting held on 15 March. At the meeting Colchester2020 launched a refreshed Vision for 2020 and beyond to underpin the process of consulting on a Refreshed Sustainable Community Strategy for Colchester. The refreshed vision is as follows:
‘’Colchester, driving forward as a prestigious regional centre that is:
- an iconic destination for culture and learning nationally and internationally
- renowned for sustainable economic growth
Delegates took part in one of a number of workshops that discussed 10 potential ‘Issues’ for Colchester2020 to take forward. These were ‘Issues’ that directly link to the refreshed Vision; will give added value (not duplication); 2020 are able to make a difference; may and probably will impact on the day job of others but doesn’t duplicate it, and were as follows:
Group A (Linking to the Iconic part of the Vision):
Gateways, River Environment, Heritage & Culture, 2012 Olympics and Town Centre
Group B (Linking to the sustainable economic growth and opportunities part of the Vision):
Transport, Employment/Job Skills, Climate Change, Life Opportunities and Business.
Participants were also given the opportunity flag up any other ‘Issues’ which they felt Colchester2020 should consider.
The next stage in the consultation process, will be for Colchester2020 to consider the outcomes from the Assembly Meeting and produce a draft document for public consultation which will take place from mid-May to the end of June. Further consideration will be given from the feedback received. It is anticipated that the Colchester’s Refreshed Sustainable Community Strategy will be launched at the October 2007 Assembly Meeting.
