Architecture Awards From artistically designed public toilets to an award winning lecture theatre, architectural projects of all shapes and sizes have been celebrated at this year’s Colchester2020 and RIBA Architectural Awards. The winners of the high-profile awards were announced last night [Friday 7 November] at the Forum for the Built Environment’s Anglian Lecture in the Moot Hall. This year’s winning entries are: New Contemporary Buildings
Joint winners: Heritage Projects Stable 7 Essex Eco Village - View Film >> Art in the Built Environment Creative Conveniences, Lion Walk - View Film >> Sense of Place Wellhouse Green, Phases 1 and 2, West Mersea - View Film >> Sustainable Developments - sponsored by Pinstripe Creative The Centre for Brain Sciences, University of Essex - View Film >> The biennial awards, sponsored by Pinstripe Creative, Colchester2020 and Colchester Borough Council with assistance from Essex County Council, aim to promote quality new buildings, sustainable developments, heritage projects, public art and the design of public open space. Jo Edwards, Colchester2020’s Joint Lead Partner for Heritage and Culture, said: ‘’Once again the awards have shown that there is a great passion in Colchester to produce great architecture. I would like to congratulate all of the winners and shortlisted projects on behalf of Colchester2020, and thank each of them for creating projects that our borough can be proud of.’’ Simon Plater of the Colchester RIBA Chapter said: ‘’The RIBA Colchester Chapter is delighted to congratulate the winners of this year’s awards. The Architectural Awards play an important role in encouraging high quality in all different types of architecture in Colchester, and this comes across clearly in the diverse array of winning projects.’’ Ben Green, Technical Director of Pinstripe Creative, sponsor of the Sustainable Development category, said: ‘’I am personally delighted to congratulate the University of Essex for winning our category. The quality of entries from around the borough, through all the categories, was positively encouraging and the entire team at Pinstripe Creative has truly embraced the ethos of the awards. The evening itself was also fantastic; aligning the Anglia Lecture with the Architectural Awards makes sense and so I would also congratulate Colchester2020 on the entire project.’’ |
