Find out more about cycling during Bike Week

Bike Week celebrations 2007
We want to encourage more people to get into cycling, as not only will you be raising money for charity through encouraging a healthy and fun activity, you will also be making a contribution to tackling climate change and local congestion through encouraging a sustainable mode of transport.
So why not try out cycling during Bike Week? To support you, colleagues and families to participate we have organised a number of events in the lead up to Bike Week, to help you participate in Bike Week safely and with confidence. We can also offer advice and ideas and direct you towards free resources, insurance and a competition to help you get your organisation involved. The Colchester2020 Travel Plan Club team will be providing bespoke poster templates and leaflets for Bike Week Colchester, to encourage participation and to raise money for BEN Namibia. These will be for use by event organisers and will be sent out on receipt of a pledge.
The national Bike Week website offers a wealth of free advice, freebies, marketing material and a competition to support event organisers in promoting Bike Week. To take advantage of these resources all you have to do is to register your events, including internal ones, on the Bike Week website at www.bikeweek.org.uk

How to get your organisation or school to join in?
To give you a few ideas on how to encourage your staff or school to join in, why not
- Have a competition to see what department or class can cycle the most miles, or make the most cycle trips to school or work.
- Do a research project on Namibia and recreate some of the journeys and distances Namibian children have to make to go to school.
- Hold a commuter challenge and see if the bike can beat the car doing the same journey!
- Offer free breakfasts for staff or kids cycling in
- Offer a lunch time or after school/work bike leisure ride with a picnic en route
- Get your organisation to join the Bike2Work scheme for staff to obtain heavily discounted bikes. Contact Travel Plan team for more information.
